The Papillon is also known as the Continental Toy Spaniel. This
breed has been around for several centuries and was depicted in Renaissance
paintings as a companion pet for the wealthy. This perky and friendly breed loves affection
and attention. They are extremely adorable and lovable. They are small, growing
to be 7 to 10 pounds full-grown, and are considered an ideal lap dog. Unlike
many small breeds, Papillon’s are not identified as barkers, making them a good
chose for those who are not interested in a yappy breed.
Papillons need regular brushing, although their coat is not known
for matting or knotting. They are usually clean animals, bathe only when needed.
They are considered average shedders.
For exercise, Papillons will need short walks or a play
session out in the yard. Despite their petite size, Papillons enjoy outdoor
activities. Apartment living is okay, although loud noises (car horns) may make
them nervous.
Papillons can live long lives, often living to 15
years or even more.
